Ellis Dee / DJ Chalk E White / Colin Dale with the “AHE Show”

The Ellis Dee story starts way back in 1988 when the sound of acid music first hit London. Ellis Dee and a few friends opened the “Rave at the Cave” in Elephant and Castle and he started getting noticed on the underground scene along with DJ Chalk E White. Soon after this he took up residences at the Fridge in Brixton alongside Jumping Jack Frost, Paul Trouble Anderson and Evil Eddie Richards. Thursday nights at Rage alongside Grooverider, Fabio and Trevor Fung. Dingwalls in Camden was also a residency on a Thursday night. As the scene grew so did his reputation. Ellis went on to headline most of the major rave parties throughout the 90s such as Dreamscape, World Dance, Fantazia, Perception, Helter Skelter etc playing a mixture of hardcore and then jungle/drum & bass.
Ellis met up with future breaks guru Rennie Pilgrem and along with with Nick Scott and Richard Thake they formed the band Rhythm Section that produced club smashers such as “Coming on Strong” and “Atomic”.
Collusion Records was co-owned by Ellis Dee which released quality Jungle between 1994-1998. The international scene started to call and Ellis went on to play in Australia, America, Canada, Russia, Japan and most of the European countries.

2019 sees a new chapter in Ellis Dee’s musical journey as he starts a brand new Jungle/D&B label called Academix Records

This is one DJ that has played everywhere from small dingy basements to massive raves and festivalsand is guaranteed to keep any crowd on its toes.

I believe I was always destined to be involved in the Music Industry. That was quite evident from a very early age. From the age of 15 I was actively involved in the world of reggae sound systems. Initially starting out as an MC before progressing on to becoming a DJ/Selector. The sound system started to broaden its horizons & I began experimenting with playing more Disco, Soul & Rare Grooves. I steadily started to become more influenced by the sounds at the house parties I regularly attended organised by Soul 2 Soul, Trevor Madhatter Nelson, Bobby & Steve & gradually began to establish my name on the DJ circuit. Playing gigs mainly around the West End of London. One day on my way home from one of these events, I stumbled across a party being held in some offices in Kings Cross which changed my life FOREVER. It was an Acid House Party being held by some promoters from way up in the north of England. The rhythm of the beat hooked me straight away. It was something I’d never been exposed to before, A breath of fresh air!!! The dancing, the attire, The friendly atmosphere. Everything that I adore about clubbing seemed to be lifted a knotch & I just knew from that moment I was destined to be part of this new dance culture. I was brought up mainly in the London Bridge area in London, which coincidently gave birth to the underground London Acid House scene ( Shoom, Promised Land, Clink St) I got my first break on the scene at Clink where I started MC’ing on the Shock sound system. What I really craved was a DJ set. This golden opportunity was presented to me by my Blood Brother DJ Ellis Dee who helped run an event a mile up the road from the Clink called The Rave At The Cave. Ellis Dee, the Token Jester & I would play all night Fridays & Saturdays. Which gave me the perfect platform to establish myself amongst the House Music DJ fraternity. Through our contacts, we started to get regular bookings. At the time The House Dj community was small & the demand was great!!! So off I went on different adventures every week playing in a variety of venues alongside UK House Legends like, Fabio, Grooverider, Carl Cox, Lenny Dee, Paul Trouble Anderson, The Ratpack, Slipmatt, DJ Face, JJ Frost, Adamski, Colin Favor, to name but a few in Old fire stations, Car Parks, Disused Warehouses, Boats, offices, Brixton Academy. These were exciting times. In 1989 I got on the books of the Pure Organisation who ran one of the most popular nights in London, Rage. Which then progressed into open air events The Dance Series Dance 90, Dance 91 which then propelled me onto a bigger stage Playing at such distinguished indoor/outdoor events as Energy, Biology, Freedom to Party, Weekend World, Pirate Club World Dance, In search of Space, Beyond Therapy, Metamorphosis, Raindance, Mystery Tour & many many more I also had a regular Sunday afternoon show on CENTERFORCE radio & played in Ibiza, Italy & Spain. In 92 I started producing a few tracks with a friend under the guise of D.O.P.E Logical Hardcore & Richard’s first trip being the best seller’s. After the rave scene became increasingly fractured I developed a liking for Techno & became part of an event called Knowledge which was held at Pasha (formally known as SW1 club) & the mighty Sterns, Playing sets with Loftgroover, LTJ Bukem etc. etc. After becoming slightly disillusioned with the old school scene I went back to my roots & hooked up with Bobby & Steve & this is where my interest in PR & EVENTS & HOSPITALITY began. Helping to promote Garage City & then Soul Heaven was like serving an apprenticeship which then gave me the impetus to start organizing my own events & forging a career in music industry hospitality looking after sponsors & media at festivals such as the Southport Weekender which lead to an amazing spell working for Rapture Tv as Research Reporter on a Music based Programme called Train Spotting as well as working as a Dj in the ladies wear department of House of Fraser Oxford St . More recently I’ve rekindled my love affair with all things old school & have recently Dj’d at famed UK promotions such as Raindance, Epidemic, Moondance, Labrinth, I currently run events brands Acid House Experience Events & Sterns Ravers Reunion. . I’m also currently head of PR for a company called Masterlinx helping to launch the careers of raw talented local artists I also organize monthly retro events & Boat Parties on the River Thames called The Soul Cruise which has been established for 10yrs. Now I’m working on some new releases for 2021.PEACE
